Luther "Standing Bear" and the Carlisle Indian School: Perspective
This is the project that I am most proud of because I really dove into it and put a lot of work into it. To pull this project together it took a great deal of research and communication. Throughout this project I read Luther Standing Bears biography, "My People The Sioux", read through many primary documents that I got through the Carlisle Indian School and did some research online.

English and History
|
For the english and history portion I chose to write journal entries from three different people perspectives on the Carlisle Indian School. I did this so that the reader would be able the learn about the level of education, the thoughts and feelings and the progress in education of the founder of the school, a student and a students parents. Also, by doing this it became very easy for me to use the thinking skill of perspective in my project.
Attached to the left is the journal entries that were written for this project. |
ArtFor the art portion of my project I took a common native American art piece, a dream catcher and I altered the design and made it out of school supplies to show how the school was trying to change the students perspectives. If you zoom into the pictures you can see that there are words engraved into the pencils. These are words that I pulled from the book that I read. The reason why I included them is because they are somethings that originally shaped Luther's perspectives and views.
